Was the f-117 a real worthwhile investment?

it was, the f-117a's in desert storm flew towards and through one of the most heavily guarded cities in the world and came out without a scratch, also they have the best hit/kill to loss record in the world
they were early stealth i'll admit that and nothing compared to say a b-2 but remember a b-2 cost something like 1.375 billion dollars so the f-117 was worth it in my opinion

Ive Pondered That- The Raptor has seemed to take over the Nighthawk- as in it can do all that the Nighthawk can, and more- but yes, F-117's were early Stealth, and still pretty amazing if you look back, even just 40 years.

i think they should modify the f-117 to supersonic speeds with modified bombing capabilities

The F-117 was a huge technological success, however for how much it costs and the fact that it carries two bombs make me feel that it is just a big waste of money. As for modifying it for supersonic flight, why? There would be absolutely no point to that. Think about it, the aircraft's engines are designed with special deflectors so the heat of the engine is dispersed and therefore it doesn't give off a large heat signature. Plus if no one can see it or shoot it down, then what would the point of being a supersonic aircraft be? Besides, before the raptor came out, supersonic flight was generally used in short sprints because of the fuel consumption rate. The only exception to that is the SR-71, but because it flies at such a high altitude it consumes less fuel.

the f-117 was a good technlogical sucess but the fact that it costs so much will mean that we wont have as many in the air which in turn will be a big downfall for the fear factorand the fact that its carryin 2 bombs will decrease the fuel capacity which will give it a shorter flight time so all in all the f-117 was just a big waste of time and taxpayers dollars
