MiG-21 - still unpleasant surprise at Cope India e [by: michael82]

Draft copy of the exercise Cope India report says:
While the superb performances of IAF Sukhoi-30s were somewhat anticipated, the performance of MiG-21Bison came as a major “unpleasant surprise” to the USAF officials. It also validates the claim of the Russian officials that they are capable of successfully converting “second generation” late-model MiG-21bis fighters to “fourth generation combat platforms”. Inherently the significant positive attributes enjoyed by MiG-21s were their dog fighting ability in WVR (Within Visual Range) combat. Even the earlier models had a low corner velocity of 556 kilometers per hour and at Mach 0.5 had an instantaneous turn rate of 11.1 degrees per second. The MiG-21Bison with more powerful R-25 engines not only considerably bettered this performance but it may also be credited with “jackrabbit” acceleration, a very critical attribute in WVR combat.

Something in-line to:
http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-Performance-Practice-Unexploited-maneuverability/dp/8660210174/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1356439329&sr=1-1

Among many fourth generations attributes added to the IAF MiG-21Bison design, the incorporation of HMS (Helmet Mounted Sight) and high-off-boresight R-73RDM2 NBVR/WVR (Near Beyond Visual Range/Within Visual Range) AAMs (Air-to-Air Missiles) have turned it into a “Great Equalizer” in the WVR combat scenario. Conceptually a small number of MiG-21Bisons maintaining “radar silence” can be guided towards their aerial target by a couple of Sukhoi-30s by secure data links in accordance with MFFC (Mixed Fighter Force Concept). Upon entering into an WVR combat envelope the MiG-21Bisons armed with HMS and deadly NBVR/WVR missiles had the capability of destroying even fifth-generation fighters alike F/A-22 Raptor as assessed by high-profile Fighter Analyst Ben Lambeth of RAND Corporation. According to Lambeth “in visual combat everybody dies at the same rate.” F/A-22 also has to slow down if forced into a WVR combat scenario and loses the advantage of its super-cruise attributes. The situation further complicates if the IAF Sukhoi-30s have acquired the capability of providing target illumination for RVV-AE (AA-12 Adder) BVR missiles being launched from IAF MiG-21Bisons at extended ranges.

About Air Force Recruitment & Retention Strategies [by: edward01 (Edward Leigh)]

Hello Members,

The United States Air Force is the most technically advanced branch of the Armed Services, and it has a unique history and culture.

Competing with the Civilian Workforce:
The U.S. Department of Defense states that Air Force personnel are the most sought-after people for civilian jobs. This is because the Air Force is a highly technical and administrative branch of the Armed Services, with members who work directly with the newest and latest technologies that are used in corporate settings.

The Cultural Identity of the Air Force:
Historically, the Air Force has a different cultural identity than its sister services. According to a report entitled "The Cultural Identity of the United States Air Force" by Major William C. Thomas, the Air Force has a unique history of aerospace defense and technology. The Air Force advertises education, administration and technology as the main goals of its defense plan, which appeals to individuals who want to work or serve in a technical environment. This cultural identity is used heavily in Air Force recruitment and retention strategies.

Getting and Keeping Qualified Air Force Personnel:
The Air Force has implemented programs to strengthen its retention programs by offering more promotions in career fields, re-enlistment bonuses and better facilities for career personnel. The Air Force proudly promotes its Community College of The Air Force program as being the only college degree program offered by an armed service that is accredited by major colleges. Educational opportunities are also featured in getting people to stay in the Air Force.

Thanks and Regards,
Edward Leigh

http://www.ocra.aero/

Simulab Flight Sim Engine [by: edward01]

Hello Friends,

I'm pleased to announce the release of the SimuLab Release Terra. Main features of this release: true support for global scenery, first functional avionic elements like HUD, MPCD, Compass, artificial horizon (ATT), vehicle preview and import tool, configurable mission and vehicle setup and of course first insight and impression of the technology.
This is not a major release, it's not a bug free release but "accidental" one. In coming 1-2 months i won't be able to proceed on SL development and would like to share the development results "AS IS" with interested audience. Sad, but i didn't get the collision detection and height above ground elements polished on time. This release will primarily give the moder community the first insight and and chance to test their aircraft with the engine. AND the most important feature is the full integration with the latest JSBSim version.
The moders willing to contribute to SL and/or Flight Gear projects may get started with developing and testing their aircraft with this release. SL provides extensive performance logging and allows to compile accumulated performance data into MS Excel table for analysis and plotting. Please proceed to this forum thread for more details.
Special thanks goes to Tom for providing his great aircraft models for simulation, Aron for his excellent self created sound tracks and of course to Kevin for providing terrain tile service, website and wiki maintenance and of course valuable discussions.

Thanks and Regards,
Edward Leigh

ocra.aero

Register an Abandoned Aircraft [by: edward01 (EdwardLeigh)]

Hello Community,

Aircraft may be stranded at airfields or left at repair shops by owners who can't pay their bills. State personal property laws govern the disposition of abandoned aircraft. Authorities can declare an aircraft abandoned if the owner cannot be found or does not respond to a notice of sale within a specified period.

Obtain a bill of sale. The Federal Aviation Administration requires proof of ownership for all aircraft registrations. If you purchased your aircraft at an auction or a judicial sale, ensure that the auctioneer or sheriff who conducted the sale signs the bill of sale. Include a statement verifying that the sale complied with local laws. If you cannot provide evidence of ownership, the FAA may accept a signed affidavit with supporting documentation in lieu of a bill of sale.

Conduct a title search on your aircraft. Search aircraft records through the FAA, or hire an attorney or aviation title search company to conduct the search for you. A title search discloses the chain of ownership and any liens or outstanding mortgages against the aircraft. Without a clear title, you will have difficulty selling the plane or proving ownership in a civil court proceeding. If you discover a problem with the title, file paperwork with the FAA to resolve any existing claims.

Thanks and Regards,
Edward Leigh

ocra.aero
