What bomber will totally replace the B-52? The B-1B Lancer was supposed to but was instead used to supplement the B-52s. Same with the B-2 Spirit.

I dont think they are going to replace it for some time actually. The enemy were fighting today does not have much or any aircraft and/or anti-aircraft that can really pose a threat to our B-52s. As long as were only in a war with these 'sand people' with thier AKs, Car-bombs and Gaffi sticks, the B-52 should be fine to carry out its missions. In a major war with a modern nation however the B-52's would prolly be put aside for the B-2s and B-1bs who can evade todays air defences far better than the old Buff
Everything that makes it functional makes it beautiful. I call it perfection, I call it passion, I call it human, I call it lust... I call it Su-37.

Why replace something that works?

I think it was in the May 2008 issue of Air & Space magasine (sorry im not all that good at spelling.) that said that they were bringing back the B-1 over the B-52 because of its ability as a tactical bomber. It can fly over the battlefield for long periods of time and still be able to make it back to base. The B-52 isn't really designed for that. Today in a war against terrorists that are totally unpredictable, we need tactical bombers, not stretegic like the B-2 and B-52.

Ok, first of all, there are not enough B-1's to replace the 52s. Second, what do you mean it wasn't ment to fly around for a long period of time? Thats exactly what it was designed to do............fly long range strategic bombing raids in nuclear war, now it just does it conventionally........

The 52s will not be completely retired for many years, the USAF puts that around 2050.

I ment over the combat airspace longer. And i didnt say it was being replaced (but then again i phrased it wrong) by the B-1. In this war a tactical bomber that can stay over a hot battlefield is probably a better use. If we were fighting a country that had factorys and bases and such I could see the B-52 having better value than a B-1, but in a war against militant forces that are totally unpredictable, you need tactical over stretegic.

What do you think tankers are for?

And I don't know what exactly you are getting at here, because the B-52 (10,000+ miles) has a significantly longer range than the B-1 (7,455 miles). Therefore, a B-52 can stay over the battlefield longer than a B-1 without refueling.

Make sure you check that what you are saying is right before you post it and/or try to argue/debate it.

The aircraft in question are offset by the fact that the B-1 can carry more weapons than a 52 can.

Please just read the article. If you still think I'm misinturpriting this, then I'll stop arguing this. (there are four pages to the article, so don't just stop at the first page.)
