Message Number 5Date Posted: 13 April 2004, 8:49:21 AM Cool site, but some aircrafts need a little more comments, for example RAH-66 project is discontinued. Ka-50 have no major achievements, as this site says, but actually there many achievements, at least three:(i copied a part of a message which i've sent to webmaster to change info, but for now no info has been changed, so i decided to put it here)
1. first serial army attack helicopter with ejection
seat(s)(k-37 ejection seat- in emergency helicopter shoot away its
rotor blades and then eject a pilot(s- if Ka-52).)
2. first serial combat helicopter with crew of one .
3. first helicopter to make a loop from zero speed, without
startingacceleration.
Also its real speed in straight fly is 310 kmh, because 350kmh is a shallow dive
speed.
On photos, there are two diffirent helicopters, Ka-50 and Ka-52. Yes,
ofcourse ka-52 on 80 percents is original Ka-50, but its avionics is
strongly improved. And in Russia it's called Alligator. In NATO its name is
Hokum-B. But it's actually another helicopter.
Real ka-50 modifications are Ka-50N(also very improved) and ka-50-2
'Erdogan' which is very deep modification, made with all NATO
standarts specially for export, it has no ejection seat, only shock absorbing, can shoot
both Russian and NATO weapons, has NATO-standart tandem seat
arrangement.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Plus to all it has exellent maneuverability. For example during second war in
Chechnya(2000 year till now), its wingmans which flew on mi-24 lost their comander (ka-50) from sight,
because of its great maneuverability(what piece of cake for Kamov isimpossible for most of hellicopters). Terrorists had passive IR ground
to air missiles, but no Ka-50 were shot down or seriously damaged.
Second is its reliability- for example Ka-52 can perform its
missions from improvised field base, which situated far from its main base for 15
days without any maintenance.
Also lack of tail rotor, which statistics says is most vulnerable part
of helicopter, made Ka-50 a helicopter, hard to shoot down. Once
during test flight ka-50 collied with something and lost big part of its
tail(this can be fatal for most of helicopters), but it lost no
control, and pilot returned to base landed easily.
Ka-50 can fly on one engine in diffirent modes, what is important,
and there no way to destroy both engines by one hit.
Have you ever thought why 'Hokum'? During test flights in 80' when
ka-50 was a secret, our soldiers attached plastic plates to
Ka-50(illusion of window), to hide any idea of contruction of the
helicopter. And once this plastic plate was engulfed into engine
inlet. And NATO agents made a photo during this moment.
This helicopter returned to base on one engine and successfuly
landed. But NATO haven't forgiven this hokum with plastic plates.
That's why it's nato code is 'Hokum'.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
MI-24 HIND
Also Mi-24 has at least 2 more achievments:
First and only helicopter to shot down air plane in combat.
In 1982 f-4 Phantom II was shot down by burst of non-guided 80mm missiles, released by mi-24 Hind during head-on pass.
Mi-24 fought in more than 30 wars.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be great if there were such great WW2 aircrafts as Mosquito(great bomber) , Hellcat(thing, which helped to destroy Japanese aviation) , P-51(best long range bomber support fighter),
Yak-3(one of the best soviet fighters), Me-262(best jet of the war), La-7(best low level close combat fighter on which best soviet and allies ace- Kozhedub, flew), Ar-234(jet bomber, first plane with ejection), Il-2 and Il-10(best ground attack and close air support plane of the war, 36.000 were built), and also Spitfire, Hurricane, A6M, B-17, Pe-2, P-39, Bf-109, Fw-190 etc.
Also thats strange that there no yakovlev's planes. For example yak-38 and Harrier are only state-of-the-art jump jet fighters in service. Yak-(1)41 'Freestyle'
(first flight-1989)is first supersonic jump jet fighter, it has speed almost equal to 2 mach(1850 kmh- as far as i know), maneuverablity almost equal to Mig-29's, range is about 2000 km yak-41 take offs by normal way, and 1100 km- if vertical.
With 2000 kg of weapons and vertical take-off its range is equal to 660 km.
No doubt that this bird is the best jump jet for now, it broke most, if not all, records of Harrier, but lack of money in Russia in early 90'... well i suppose you're understand everything.

I hope you'll use these advices to make this site greater.
