Message Number 2Date Posted: 24 August 2006, 1:49:45 AM Tomcat's airframes are getting old, really old and thier starting to fall apart. Technically the aircraft is still very deadly and performs well by todays standards. The actual aircraft themselves are just old and the US doesnt wanna build new ones. EA-18G ftw! Everything that makes it functional makes it beautiful. I call it perfection, I call it passion, I call it human, I call it lust... I call it Su-37.

Message Number 4Date Posted: 03 April 2007, 10:20:08 AM OH GOD! you are actually asking people that? let me put it this way, the F-16 only has one engine, which makes it a little slower than the F/A-18, however, more manuverable. but they both have two pylons on each wingtip, the hornet has more tail fins, which makes it more stabile but in personal experience, really too clunky to be a fighter, and it is a fighter attacker, in my opinion, the Hornet is just a beefed up version of the Fighting Falcon. and as we all know, the book(original version) is almot allways better than the movie (later version) althought the Hornet may look better than the Fighting Falcon, the falcon, hands down, would defeat the hornet. they both have generally the same arnament capacity, so we cant compare that way, the Falcon is obviously better than the clunky Hornet

Message Number 5Date Posted: 04 April 2007, 9:56:22 AM ah, alas, in my stupor, i sorgot which planes we were discussing, my apologies. in this argument, the Hornet beats the Tomcat, the Tomcat being the more Klunky of the three. sorry again, hope you arent mad at me....sorry...
these two navy aircraft are the two most used. but they have hundreds of diferences, to make it short... the Tomcat is worse than the Hornet.....

Message Number 6Date Posted: 09 May 2007, 3:50:55 PM F-14 Tomcat takes my vote this time. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet cant even compete. The Hornet is too much of a drag! I'd take the Tomcat over the Hornet ANY day!

Message Number 7Date Posted: 28 May 2007, 4:56:25 PM In close combat the F/A-18 beats the F-14, but at long distances the F/A-18 is dead. Just so everyone know, in September of 2006, the F-14 was officially decomissioned and the F/A-18 became the Navys only fighter, until the XF-35 becomes operational.

Message Number 8Date Posted: 28 May 2007, 8:59:07 PM I think that with the advances in radar and targeting systems that neither of them is better I think that it comes down to that one of them is a lot older than the other and also the F/A-18 takes up less room on the ships and uses less fuel than the F-14. The F-14 is one of my more favorite planes of all time though.

Message Number 9Date Posted: 28 May 2007, 9:33:26 PM I would agree with that statement. The F-14 is just a lot older and its not worth the money it would take to make it a viable combat aircraft for the next couple years or so.
Though, the F-14 is a cool plane for its abilities, but I wouldn't put it on my top ten coolest planes list. The F/A-18 I am even less fond of I have never liked that plane and I doubt I ever will.

Message Number 10Date Posted: 28 May 2007, 9:37:06 PM I know they had a lot of issues with the F-18 in testing because the computer wouldn't let the pilot do what he wanted sometimes because it thought that the manuever was an irrecoverable spin or that the plane was out of conrol.
