I believe they did. I know that the airforce also got rid of the AIM 7 missile as well. it became to outdated. But they still have the AIM9 and -9X as well as the AIM-120. So the airforce still has good missiles.

yeh the sparrow had to have a continuous radar feed from the launching aircraft giving the enemy aircraft a chance to shoot back. Not a pretty sight if the bogies get lucky.

not just the eagle. it was every plane in the teen series (tomcat through hornet) and even the old phantom was made to carry it.

no problem. the AMRAAM totally shatters everything the sparrow could do.

not true, the AMRAAM, is faster more manuevrable smaller fire and forget but the key issue here is cost and the sparrow costs about half of what the AMRAAM costs

I think the US military will pay that much if it means higher survivabilty for our pilots.

Apparently here lately money is no object except when comes to giving the military what they need to do their job. The G8 just elected to spend 40 to 50 billion dollars in toward African aid. yet militaries are running out of money to do their jobs.

Everyone know the line from the movie 'Independence Day' and I quote, 'you really don't think they spent $500,000 on a toilet seat and $400,000 on a hammer do you?' Yeah just keep that in mind
