Hey i don't intend to be mean and all but you guys have an adiction to high tech aircraft. technology is one thing. but with new high tech technology comes a price. and all that technology has a weak spot. the internet for example. we hear all the time of people hacking it. lets say someone hacks the transportation department network. all mass transit would come to a standstill. And what about Iraq and Afganistan? we are facing an enemy that has 40 year old weapons, simple tactics and homemade road side bombs. we should've beaten them by now but we havn't. so technology may be great but it doesn't always give you the upper hand.

And they are way too complex and expensive. this could be hard on the US' pokets and the ground crews.

You know, what you are not considering is, that when the P-51 was introduced it was new technology. When the F-15 and F-16 were introduced no one had ever seen or heard of a Fly By Wire aircraft. All of these things were new at some point. Technology and how high tech it is, is only relevant to your education, what you have seen, what you have heard, and when you were born.

No actually, we shouldn't have won by now...............this isn't a conventional war. Yes they are using weapons that are more than 50 years old, but they are using tactics from before the American Revolutionary war, just the same as our special forces are. Conventional wars can be gauged, you can say, we are winning now because we know we have decreased their numbers, their equipment, and ability to wage war. You can't do that in an unconventional war because you have to put both physiological factors and numbers into consideration. That has always been a problem for the public who wants to hear how we are winning. We are fighting people that have been fighting constantly for years and years, they are set in what they want to do and are in a mind set that what they are doing is right. We have to do the same thing, and basically its like a siege you have to wait it out, until the other side gives up or is killed off.

And on a final note, technology saves lives, I'd say thats a good thing...........

people just seem to pay attention to the high tech aircraft. I have rarely seen any1 that didn't like the f-15 -22 su-35 su-37 and so on.

Whats your point? So people LIKE or pay more attention to more advanced aircraft...........whats wrong with that, they are the future. If you only look at what is going on now, and never prepare or at least think about what might come along then you can never prepare for anything.

It just seems like no one cares about the old aircraft. im fine with em liken high tech aircraft its just no one pays attention to anything else. we wouldn't have our current aircraft without the old aircraft.

this is somewhat unrelated but have u ever read Crush Depth by Joe Brown? (if not u should check it out. great book.) but anyhow The setup of that story may be alittle far fetched but it does show how you could overestimate your strenth. yall know that china and russia and other countries can shoot down satilites right? now lets assume they shot all of them down. now lets say a cruise missle hits the bay bridge between newport news and the eastern shore in VA. that would ruin alot of the local economy and transportation. lets say a lot of our navy was destroyed in a nuclear blast at sea or torpedoed with nuclear armed torpedos like in the book. we would be on our knees. technology is one thing. but with new high tech technology comes a price. and all that technology has a weak spot. the internet for example. we hear all the time of people hacking it. lets say someone hacks the transportation department network. all mass transit would come to a standstill. Yes, people focus on newer aircraft, but before that they focused on the current aircraft and before that they focused on the current aircraft. The point is you are just saying that we need to think about old aircraft as well.............for what purpose? They are cool, but we need to focus on what is coming and the strengths and weaknesses of our new air force.

No I haven't read it, sounds like a conspiracy/Micheal Moore type thing. Most of the scenario's you just wrote really have no basis because they leave out our response, and they also leave out a little bit of reality.

Re-read what I said, you seem to think that just because they have old weapons and tactics means we should have beaten them by now and you are using the fact that they don't have a lot of new technology and we do as an example of how technology isn't that great. Here is the thing though, technology is not everything, but before you go off about stuff like this, saying stupid things like 'we should've beaten them by now' think about it. In a conventional war we would be done by now. Both world wars lasted less than Vietnam, and the Iraq war. That is because they were conventional wars, and they were World wars which have a bigger effect on the world as a whole in a quicker period of time than other wars.

And for not giving us the upper hand............I disagree, how many soldiers have we lost? 4,000 some? I feel horrible that any of our men and women have died for us, however if you look at that number versus WWII which had over 60 Million casualties total, its quite small. Due to our armor, and newer technology to save lives less people are dieing, which gives you the upper hand in any war. Obviously, there is no confimed number that we have killed of 'the enemy' but it has to be much, much, much higher than our death toll.

And Tom Clancy novels are usually far from reality. Either way, judging by what you said it doesn't sound like a book that really has many scenarios that actually have the whole truth to them.
