i wud jus like 2 say that im not actually american and i do agree wiv u, americans will not rule the skies. However, nor will the aussies. from a totally neutral position, being dutch, i think that if ne1 cud stand up 2 the americans, it'd b the chinese. their planes may not be so good but they have many of them. in their air force alone, they hav 5000 more aircraft than the US air force, air force reserve and air national guard put together so.

ok a few things that are fundamentally wrong with many of the arguments i have read here. the f14 can not go after 14 targets at once for two reasons: the electronics were not designed to do so; and it can't carry that many missiles. recently there was an article in i can't remember what magazine but it stated that the abl project was in danger not because of cost but because of weight. with all the needed equipment on board a 747 would not be able to even taxi. and the air force and navy have really only two air-to-air missiles now. the pheonix was retired so now it is on the venerable sidewinder and the much newer amraam to destroy the enemy. the jsf will never be the only plane being flown by the air force or navy in this country. there are various reasons for it but mainly it is not meant to replace the larger air superiority fighters. it is taking over the roles of the f16, f18a/b, a10 partially, av8b, etc. the f18e/f is taking over the role of the f14 and the f22 will replace the f15. there will always be two sizes of fighters--big and small because the small ones can't do all the things the big ones can and the big ones are too expensive to do all the things the small one is better at.

Aight first of all US could wish they own the skie, Russian technology is much better, to bad they don`t have the money to use it, for example the US payed 2 million dollar for desinging a pen that could write in space, the russians simpy used a pencil. I aren`t saying this because I`m Russian, I`m neutral but this is just my opinion.

Well WE Americans may be in debt, we will not have 1 aircraft by the end of 2050,
we actually do have a 747 that is used to shoot down SCUD missles and we could kick Australian &*#, in war games we only lost because u guys cheated by using guerrila warefare and because of that we had to restart the wargames.
The best part is USA already rules the skys because it is ahead of everybody in stealth technologys
